Russia arrests New Year’s protesters

Russia arrests New Year’s protesters

MOSCOW — Police prevented protesters organized by a radical leftist leader from gathering in central Moscow on New Year’s Eve, as a year that brought dramatic and unexpected change to Russia drew to a close.
About 200 people converged on Triumfalnaya Square in the early evening darkness, perhaps half of them journalists, for a rally organized by Eduard Limonov in support of freedom of assembly.

Limonov, founder of the National Bolshevik Party, was detained on the street before he even got to the square, and police said about 60 protesters in all were arrested because the gathering did not have a permit. They said, however, that all would be released before the stroke of midnight.
The protest differed from two rallies earlier in the month, when tens of thousands gathered in Moscow and throughout the country to demand fair elections. Saturday’s protest — called Strategy 31 after the article of the constitution that guarantees freedom of assembly — has been going on for two years, held on the 31st of every month with that many days.

Paul Vows To Unite Occupy And Tea Party Movements

Congressman heckled by Occupiers at veterans event

After being interrupted by Occupy protesters during a veterans rally in Des Moines, Iowa yesterday, Ron Paul praised the movement, compared it to the Tea Party and declared that he was the only GOP candidate who could bridge the two causes and instill real change in Washington.
During the opening remarks of his speech to the hundreds in attendance, Paul was interrupted by protesters screaming “What about the children of the 99%?”
“You are a servant of the 1%,” one woman was heard shouting in Paul’s direction, clearly either unaware or ignoring the fact that the Congressman has railed against the Federal Reserve system for over three decades and was the only candidate staunchly opposed to the banker bailouts.
“I am a veteran, my husband is a veteran…” the woman screamed, adding “does he care about us?”
Well, yes he does. The Congressman served as an Air Force surgeon, and while in office has tirelessly engaged in constituent service work on behalf of military veterans.
He was the only GOP candidate to write to the president recently to protest the fact that military retirees are now facing benefit cuts under the administration’s proposed $1.5 trillion dollar tax hike.
Despite his fierce anti-war stance, Paul’s unwavering support for veterans has seen him receive more donations from from active-duty military than all of the other Republican presidential candidates combined, as well as the president himself.
“Free Speech, aint it great!” Paul boomed as the protesters, surrounded by tv cameras and reporters, continued to make their points.

Presidential Candidate Ron Paul Slams SOPA

Presidential Candidate Ron Paul Slams SOPA

A few days before the election circus in the US will start with the Iowa’s caucus, presidential candidate Ron Paul made a comment on the pending SOPA bill
“They want to take over the Internet,” he said.
“Can you imagine how much we’re going to be curtailed in the spreading of out information if we lose the Internet?”
Paul says that while SOPA is claimed to stop piracy, it’s mostly going to invade the privacy of citizens and restrict their freedom.
Ron Paul currently leads the majority of Iowa polls.

Saint Anselm, ABC, WMUR to Host Presidential Primary Debate
Every four years, Saint Anselm has a tradition of extending our Benedictine hospitality to presidential primary candidates, the news media, and the general public for nationally televised debates.
Saint Anselm College will once again play this important role by hosting a Republican debate to be held by ABC and WMUR, to be held Saturdy January 7, 2012. The debate will air nationally from 9 to 11 p.m.
ABC hosted the final Granite State presidential debates at saint Anselm in 2008 - an event that brought Republican and Democratic candidates on stage together for the first time, only days before the first-in-the-nation votes were cast.
