‘You’re fired!’ Trump bails on Newsmax debate

by Dara Kam | December 13th, 2011 Donald Trump has bowed out as emcee of the Newsmax/ION Television GOP presidential candidate debate later this month, saying he’s not willing to give up on running for the White House as an independent to participate.
Only two of the six GOP candidates – Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum – had agreed to appear onstage with Trump at the Dec. 27 Des Moines debate, the last before the first-in-the-nation Iowa caucuses meet on Jan. 3.
Michele Bachmann was among the other White House wannabes that refused to take part because of Trump’s own presidential aspirations.
On Tuesday, Trump – the host of TV reality show “The Apprentice” – issued a statement essentially firing himself.
“It is very important to me that the right Republican candidate be chosen to defeat the failed and very destructive Obama Administration, but if that Republican, in my opinion, is not the right candidate, I am not willing to give up my right to run as an Independent candidate. Therefore, so that there is no conflict of interest within the Republican Party, I have decided not to be the moderator of the Newsmax debate,” the part-time Palm Beacher said.
